Colour is deep crimson with a plum hue.  Primary aromas of dark cherry and sweet vanillin oak, backed up by fragrant blackberry and blueberry.  The palate reveals mixed dark berries, blueberry compote and a hint of blackberry leaf.  The tannins are velvety soft and the oak well-integrated.  This wine shows lovely balance and poise.

Good colour, vibrancy and depth; Old Kent River was one of the first wineries to produce good pinot in the Great Southern, but the quality and style has wandered around in the intervening years. This has plenty of depth, but no extractive characters. It is at the upper limit of alcohol for pinot, but gets away with it. Drink by 2025.

90/100 Ray Jordan
Really attractive aroma of cherry and light raspberry with a cedary forest floor complexity working. The palate is medium bodied but it has excellent firm structure supporting the fruit. Sinewy tannins and cedar oak sit harmoniously with the fruit. The firm palate should develop well with medium-term cellaring. Cellar 6 years.

90/100, Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front.com - April 2017
The alcohol is high but the style is good. It seems to be the way of Old Kent River pinot noir. The fruit is slightly stewed but there’s plenty of spice and a firm rein of tannin. Importantly it remains frisky and varietal, despite it’s warmth and slightly baked feel. The back label suggests “vanillin” oak but I don’t see that, though the texture has a gentle creaminess. Cedary, smoky, slightly reductive characters hang around about. It’s not bad at all. Drink 2017 - 2021+.
